Finding and Approaching UK Supervisors for MRes & PhD Study. A practical online workshop for prospective international postgraduate researchers who want to identify suitable UK supervisors, assess research fit, write professional first-contact emails, use AI responsibly, and follow up effectively.
About This Workshop
Sending emails to UK academics about MRes or PhD supervision but receiving little or no response?
Finding a potential supervisor is about more than sending as many emails as possible. The quality of your approach, your understanding of the academic's research, and the fit between your proposed research and their expertise all matter.
This practical two-hour workshop will guide prospective MRes and PhD students through the process of identifying appropriate UK academics, researching their work, assessing research fit, preparing a professional first-contact email, using AI responsibly, and following up appropriately.
Participants will also learn how to avoid common mistakes in supervisor outreach and how to present themselves as serious prospective researchers.
Please note: This workshop does not guarantee admission, funding, or a response from any particular academic. It provides a practical framework to help participants approach the process more strategically and professionally.
